Diamond League winners banked a cool $50,000 (US) for finishing first in their respective events. We got five of them to tell us how they plan to spend their booty.

Fabiana Murer (BRA) – Women’s pole vault

“I am finishing the decoration of my new apartment. I also have an open area, so I will spend some of my prize money buying some nice furniture where we can enjoy time with friends.

“As I live in Sao Paulo I would like to put in a green wall [a wall with plants] to be closer to the nature and also prepare a place for a barbecue on the terrace.”

Michael Tinsley (USA) – Men’s 400m hurdles

“I do plan on spending a few upgrades on the house and putting in some hard wood floors to replace the carpet.

“I’m not a huge jewellery person, but what I really plan on buying is the Rolex Deepsea better known as the ‘Sea Dweller’.”

Christian Taylor (USA) – Men’s Triple Jump

“After winning the Diamond League this year, the first thought that came to mind was to put the money away for the future. My plan during my time in athletics is to save as much money as possible to put my family in a good position once my career is over.

“I definitely plan on working beyond my athletics career and believe being wise about the money now will give me a little cushion in the future.”

Taylor could do with a cushion for his landing

Reese Hoffa (USA) – Men’s Shot Put

“Right now I am in the process of starting up the Hoffa Throws Academy in Watkinsville, Georgia and some of the money will go towards starting up the academy.

“I need money to buy throws equipment, nets, barriers, and to cover rent for the facility. I am glad I won. I need the money!”

No chance of Hoffa throwing it away

Novlene Williams-Mills (JAM) – Women’s 400m

“My husband and I deserve a vacation and that’s where some of the money will be spent. I don’t know where we are going yet, I’m leaving that for my husband to plan.

“All I ask is that the location has a nice beach. My husband won’t tell me where we are going he will only say 'just bring your passport'.”
